- Cause & Symptoms: Bleached or brown-scorched patches from harsh direct sun; buds that yellow and drop before opening from a sudden change in temperature, light, dryness or draughts.

- Cause & Symptoms: Blackened root tips and brown leaf edges from accumulated salts or over-feeding, worsened by these orchids’ sensitivity to mineral build-up.

Species note: Odontoglossum are cool-growing Andean Oncidiinae; they especially dislike heat and stale wet mix, so bacterial rot and mite damage climb when they are kept too warm and airless. Cool, buoyant conditions are the best defence.

Most disease control here is cultural – fresh open mix, morning watering, and strong airflow – not spraying.
