- Mealybugs (Planococcus / Pseudococcus spp.):
- Symptoms: Cottony white tufts gather in leaf axils, on shoot tips and around fruit; they suck sap, stunt growth and excrete honeydew that fuels sooty mould.

- Symptoms: Dark leaf spots and blotches, blighted shoot tips, and – in waterlogged soil – root and collar rot causing yellowing, wilting and dieback.
