- Spider Mites (Tetranychus urticae):
- Symptoms: Tiny sap-suckers that thrive in warm, dry indoor air. Look for fine pale or bronze stippling on the upper leaf surface and delicate webbing across leaf undersides and stem tips; badly infested plants dry out and drop leaves. A sharp tap over white paper dislodges the moving specks.
- Prevention & Control: Raise humidity and avoid hot, stagnant air, and shower the foliage periodically to knock mites off. For active infestations spray horticultural oil or insecticidal soap on the leaf undersides, repeating every few days; predatory mites (Phytoseiulus persimilis) give clean control indoors.
