- Prevention & Control: Scrape off light infestations by hand or with an alcohol-dipped swab. Smother the rest with horticultural oil, ensuring the spray reaches under the scale covers, and repeat to catch the mobile crawler stage.
- Fungus Gnats (Bradysia spp.):
- Symptoms: Small dark flies drifting up from the potting mix, a sign of soil kept too wet. The larvae live in the top layer of moist mix and can nibble tender roots and rooting cuttings, weakening young plants.
