- Prevention & Control: Hand-pick at dusk when they feed, and place cardboard collars around transplants to foil cutworms. Encourage birds and predatory insects. For persistent outbreaks, a targeted Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) spray controls young caterpillars without harming beneficials.
Diseases & Fungal Issues
- Powdery mildew (Erysiphe / Podosphaera spp.):
- Symptoms: A dusty white coating on upper leaf surfaces, worst on crowded plants and in humid air with poor circulation; badly affected leaves yellow and drop.
