For the flame tree keep horticultural oil and insecticidal soap for psyllids, scale and aphids; a phosphite product for Phytophthora root-rot protection; and iron chelate for chlorosis on limy soils. Most control is biological and cultural – healthy, well-drained, unstressed trees resist pests and borers. Apply oils in the evening to protect pollinators and follow the label.
