What Helps – Products & Tools
Because the leaves are frequently eaten, favour selective, low-residue tools: insecticidal soap and neem for aphids and beetles; Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) and spinosad for caterpillars and armyworms; floating row cover and kaolin clay to exclude flea beetles, Lygus bugs and leaf-mining flies; and yellow/white sticky traps for monitoring. For disease, rely on clean seed, rotation and airflow, with a copper fungicide for leaf spot or white rust if needed.
