Keep insecticidal soap, neem and horticultural oil for aphids and whitefly, diatomaceous earth and floating row cover for flea beetles on seedlings, and yellow sticky traps for monitoring. For disease, sulfur or potassium bicarbonate handles powdery mildew and rust, and copper fungicide covers leaf spot in wet spells. The most useful ‘tools’ here are sharp drainage, full sun and secateurs for the Chelsea chop. Follow the label and spray oils in the evening to protect pollinators.
