Choosing Pots & Supports
Drainage matters more than material for most plants — a beautiful pot with no drainage hole causes more root rot than almost any other single mistake. For plants that dry out fast or that you travel away from often, self-watering planters reduce the risk. For vegetables and larger plants, fabric grow bags are a lightweight, well-draining alternative to rigid pots. Climbing plants and vines usually need a moss pole or support, while taller top-heavy plants do better staked with a stake or trellis.
