- Honeydew Nuisance:
- Cause & Symptoms: The sticky honeydew from summer aphids makes lime a poor choice over patios, parking and paths, coating everything below and encouraging sooty mould.
- Correction Strategy: Site the tree away from paving and parking, encourage aphid predators, and wash affected surfaces; accept it as inherent to the species.
- Drought Stress & Leaf Scorch:
- Cause & Symptoms: In hot, dry summers or restricted root runs, leaf margins brown and scorch and leaves may drop early.

On a mature lime, cultural tolerance and natural predators do most of the work. For small or young trees, horticultural oil and insecticidal soap manage aphids and scale, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) targets caterpillars, and grease bands stop winter-moth females. Leaf-fungi are handled by raking and sanitation rather than sprays. Mulch and steady watering are the best insurance.
