For Rumex the practical kit is fine floating row cover and yellow sticky traps against leaf-miner and flea beetles; insecticidal soap for heavy aphid outbreaks; iron-phosphate bait and grit for slugs and snails; and, on ornamental (non-edible) plants only, sulphur or copper for rust and downy mildew. Because the leaves are usually eaten, favour picking, hygiene and barriers over sprays, and wash all harvested leaves.
