- Cause & Symptoms: Dry air, mineral-rich or fluoridated water, and salt build-up cause brown, crispy leaf tips and margins.
- Correction Strategy: Raise humidity, use rainwater or distilled water in the cup, and flush the potting mix periodically to remove salts.
- Faded bracts / poor colour (light & natural decline):
- Cause & Symptoms: Too little light gives weak colour; but note that after flowering the mother rosette naturally fades and dies over many months – this is normal, not disease.
- Correction Strategy: Give bright, indirect light for good bract colour; once the parent declines, remove it and grow on the pups that form at the base.

For Guzmania keep it simple: insecticidal soap and a light horticultural oil for scale, mealybug and aphids (spot-test first), plus a copper fungicide only if leaf spot spreads. There is no product for heart rot – the real "tools" are warmth, airflow, a fast-draining epiphytic mix and disciplined cup watering (never cold water in the cup in cold weather).
