- Agave snout weevil (Scyphophorus acupunctatus):
- Symptoms: The adult is a dull black, long-snouted beetle about 1–2 cm long that chews into the base of the rosette to lay eggs. It is easily mistaken for physical or edema damage. Once leaves harden the scars are permanent but no longer spreading.

- Treatment & Management: There is no cure for badly affected tissue – cut well back into clean, firm flesh with a sterilised blade (disinfect between cuts), remove all slime, and let the wound dry hard. - Anthracnose (Colletotrichum agaves):
- Symptoms: Sunken, dark brown to black lesions on the leaves, often with a slightly moist look and, in humid weather, pinkish-orange spore masses in the centre of the spots. It favours warm, wet, crowded conditions and spreads rapidly by splashing water.
- Treatment & Management: Improve airflow and spacing, avoid wetting the foliage, and remove and destroy infected leaves promptly, disinfecting tools afterwards.
