For spurges the mainstays are horticultural (neem) oil and insecticidal soap for mealybug, scale, whitefly and mites; isopropyl alcohol on cotton swabs for spot-treating mealybug and scale; yellow sticky traps for monitoring whitefly; predatory mites and Cryptolaemus for biological control; and, for disease, a copper fungicide for leaf/stem spot plus sulfur or potassium bicarbonate for powdery mildew. The best “product”, though, is a fast-draining gritty mix and disciplined watering. Always wear gloves and eye protection because of the irritant latex, and spray oils in the cool of the evening.
