For chin cacti keep dilute alcohol swabs, horticultural oil and a systemic insecticide for mealybug (including root mealybug) and scale, a miticide for spider mite, and sulphur powder plus a sharp clean knife for cutting out rot. The real "tool", though, is a gritty free-draining mix and disciplined dry, warm culture – that prevents the basal rot that does most of the killing.
