Bougainvillea x buttiana (1-10 m / 3-32 ft) is a superb container and balcony plant but not a houseplant – it needs strong, direct sun to flower and simply will not bloom in ordinary indoor light. In a pot on a hot, sunny patio or balcony it flowers freely, and it takes well to pruning, training, and even bonsai. Left unpruned it can become a large vine, so keep it cut back to stay pot-sized.
