- Cause & Symptoms: Brown, scorched leaf edges and tips and a white crust on the soil surface, caused by salt build-up from over-feeding, hard water or de-icing/coastal salt.
- Correction Strategy: Flush containers and beds periodically with plenty of clean water to leach salts, feed at modest rates, and avoid fertilising stressed or dry plants. Where salt spray or run-off is the source, screen or resite the plant.
What Helps – Products & Tools
For orchid sap-suckers, insecticidal soap and horticultural/neem oil, plus alcohol dabs for scale and mealybug, are the mainstays, with sticky traps to monitor thrips. The rots are managed culturally – sterile cutting tools, good airflow and a copper fungicide to protect cut tissue. Never let water sit in the crown overnight.
