Horticultural oil or insecticidal soap covers the occasional scale or mealybug, and the crown’s real protection is a gritty, fast-draining mix with a gravel collar and a very dry watering regime. Keep plants vigorous to deter agave snout weevil, and destroy any weevil-hit rosette rather than trying to treat it.
