For cattleya-type orchids the toolkit is gentle and preventative: isopropyl alcohol swabs and horticultural oil or insecticidal soap for scale, mealybugs and mites, blue and yellow sticky traps for thrips and fungus gnats, sterile blades for clean cuts, fresh coarse orchid bark for repotting, and copper or phosphonate fungicide for black rot and leaf spots.
